Digital Storytelling Tools for Young Learners by Özge Karaoglu Ergen

"21st century technology has added a new twist to traditional storytelling. We can now easily create digital stories beyond the scope of pen and pencil. Technology has become a powerful learning tool, both in and out of the classroom, which engages students in their own learning by giving them a chance to be in the director’s chair. It stimulates imagination and sparks creativity by giving students a voice, motivating them, capturing their attention with different multimedia options and encouraging shy students to get involved. Technology opens up new opportunities to increase collaboration and interaction in the classroom by engaging children in more advanced cognitive activities."

Özge's article introduces a number of digital storytelling tools that can be used with young learners - Storybird, Voki, Animoto, for starters. Do you use any of them, and do you have any tips or advice on how to make the best of them? Or do you have some other tools you'd like to recommend? Please let us know!

Hi all. I've been using Storybird for quite a long time, but mostly as an optional homework assignment. Any suggestions about how to make the best of it in class?

This kind of activity is very effective also on iphones and I have used the tool DVolver to create stories in simple ways building up strips, pictures amd applying music. It's very good. I thank you for your ideas.
