What was it the students said they wanted from their teachers? Was it surprising, was it different from what Eric expected? In what way? I guess it is sometimes difficult to know what students expect, as many are very polite and tend to accept what teachers do, maybe in the belief that the teacher must know best. However, I think we need to be told more about what the students Eric is referring to actually said before we can have a discussion in any meaningful way. If we don't know what they said, we can only refer to our own assumptions about our students' wishes... Or maybe - horribile dictu! - ask our students?
